Absent Promise

I'm sorry Ohio for breaking our pact
My never-ending promise I'd soon be back
My absence has taken its toll
But its inevitably out of my control
This hope in my heart seems merely abstract

If only there were a time of day
Perfect in the sense to break away
To fulfill my hearts desire
without setting fire
And again bleed scarlet and gray

My apologies run down my cheek
As time consumes me, I feel myself becoming weak
Is what I left behind equivalent to what I will leave
Or once more will I only grieve
Can I allow only my heart to speak

Will I die with regret
Or return without a sweat
What if I make a mistake
Is this a risk Im willing to take
Procrastinate, distract, and try to forget
