A Wife’s Prayer

A Wife's Prayer

A Wife’s Prayer

The soldier’s wife went down to the church today
To kneel before the statue of Mother Mary to pray
And to wish for lasting peace in this time of war
And to pray that she will see her husband once more

She gets down on her knees and meditates a while
And then lights a candle with a sincere felt smile
Knowing in her heart that things will be alright
She turns around to go in the dim candles light

She dreams of good times and precious moments to come
And the statue remains still being deaf and dumb
But if the statue could of talked back I wonder if it would have said
That the soldier that she reverently prays for is already dead
