Ballad Of A Thief Past

Ballad Of A Thief Past

Were that I was destroyed in the face of hate,
Could I pretend to have escaped,
A much-deserved fate?

Should I be,
Rewarded with grief?
For past transgressions,
Against the code of thieves?

Should I make amends?
For pain inflicted upon shrouded friends?
Could I?

Forgiven unto the law of man,
When I betrayed the evil law of the land.
Swore unto peace,
So I may finally sleep,
Though still secrets I keep,
Regret is a demon with which I weep.

So haunted by a past,
Stained in my fame,
I face now a demon,
Who knows me by name.

For once we were the same.
