Crisp and clear is the Christmas night air,
As I leisurely walk home without a care.
I gaze at the lights showing Christmas decor,
And at giant wreaths that adorn every door.
The snow crunches softly under my feet,
As I pass happy faces along every street.
How I remember those Christmases long past,
And how I thought that forever they would last.
My focus was on toys and presents galore,
And a Christmas tree decorated from ceiling to floor.
Now those days are gone and shall never return,
For I’m older and wiser and a lot I did learn.
You see, Christmas isn’t gifts or presents or such,
It’s the joy in our hearts and my heart has so much.
For I know that Jesus’ birth is celebrated today.
He came to this world to show us His way;
Of kindness and peace and forgiveness and love.
He was sent from His Father who reigns from above.
And although I may not be very rich on this earth,
An abundance awaits me because of His birth.
