The Spirit Inside Me

The Spirit Inside Me

They say I’m the tyrant that brings destruction,
They say I’m the leader that rules by force,
I say I’m the fighter of those without voices,
I say I’m the protector of those who dear to dream.

You may attack me with your best weapons,
But let me remind thee that I shall not die,
My body my break and I may bleed,
But the spirit in me will rise again and rebuild.

And though you no doubt will try again,
To bring me down and bury me still,
The spirit inside me will rise again and rebuild.

On September 11th I faced your best effort,
When the structures crumbled right into dust,
The smoke filled the air and I shed a tear,
I would not bow nor be defeated for,
The spirit inside me will rise again and rebuild.
